This year’s participants are encouraged to pick up trash within their own neighborhoods and nearby wildlands and watercourses in order to prevent refuse from eventually running off into our ocean. Due to COVID-19, there are unique challenges and risks. Please visit the Mendocino Land Trust webpage at mendocinolandtrust.org and read through all safety guidelines before participating.

Free Telephone Counseling for Seniors

Sometimes simply talking to someone can help us to feel better and not feel so alone. Redwood Coast Senior Center’s Senior Peer Counseling Program is offering free confidential one hour weekly telephone counseling for eligible seniors 55+ during COVID-19. Additionally, if you are suffering from the loss of a loved one, speaking to a caring person can offer immeasurable relief.

Senior Peer Counseling was created by Evelyn Freeman, PhD in the ’70s. She recognized that seniors are well-equipped to help fellow seniors as they are experiencing similar challenges. The counselor can be a trusted and encouraging support, lightening and brightening your life, particularly during this time of extended isolation.

Counselors receive ongoing training and supervision by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Their warmth, caring, support and knowledge of community resources can help seniors navigate through this stressful time in a more fulfilling and healthy way.

Call the Program Coordinator, Elizabeth Morton, LCSW, at 707-961-4310 for further information.
